Introduction of BIAHS

Bahawalpur Institute of Allied Health Sciences (BIAHS) is a state of the art institution of Allied Health Sciences in Southern Punjab offering BSc (HONS) Audiology and BSc (HONS) Optometry, a 4 year degree program. It is accredited by University of health Sciences Lahore, a highly ranked university by Higher Education Commission of Pakistan (HEC) and clinically attached with well reputed institutions/hospital National Orthopedic Hospital. Bahawalpur Institute of Allied Health Sciences (BIAHS) has well qualified faculty, a dedicated Audiology & Optometry Lab and rehabilitation center, excellent anatomy museum, well equipped labs for Diagnostic , Amplification, Rehabilitation, refraction, low vision and latest computer lab.

Why B.Sc (Hons) in Audiology & Optometry?

BSc (Hons) Audiology & Optometry, a 4 years HEC recognized degree, is widely accepted nationally and worldwide. After completing BSc (Hons), there are ample job opportunities for the graduates ranging from clinical practice in the private sector to qualification for a clinical and educational post in public or private hospitals and universities, starting with BPS-17 scale as Audiologist & Optometrist in government hospitals in health department and progressing up to BPS-20. In academic field, one starts in BPS-18 scale as a lecturer and may advance to a rank of professor in grade BPS-21. Higher education opportunities in Pakistan at the level of MS/ M-Phil or Ph.D. include following disciplines:

  • MS speech Language Pathology & Audiology
  • MPhil optometry
  • Ph.D. in rehabilitation sciences

Careers in Audiology

  • Audiologists are experts in providing services in the prevention, diagnosis, and evidenced-based treatment of hearing and balance disorders for people of all ages. Hearing and balance disorders are complex with medical, psychological, physical, social, educational, and employment implications.
  • Audiologist own their practice and may spend more time on general business activities such as hiring employees, ordering supplies, and marketing their business
  • Audiologists provide professional and personalized services to minimize the negative impact of these disorders, leading to improved outcomes and quality of life.
  • Clinical audiologists work in a variety of settings and can specialize in pediatrics, geriatrics, balance, cochlear implants, hearing aids, tinnitus, and auditory processing among other issues

Careers in Optometry

  • Optometrists spend much of their time providing specialized care, particularly if they are working in a group practice with other optometrists or physicians. For example, some optometrists mostly treat patients with only partial sight, a condition known as low vision.
  • Optometrists own their practice and may spend more time on general business activities such as hiring employees, ordering supplies, and marketing their business.
  • Optometrists also may work as┬ápostsecondary teachers, do research in optometry colleges, or work as consultants in the eye care industry.
  • Optometrists should not be confused with ophthalmologists or┬ádispensing opticians. Dispensing opticians fit and adjust eyeglasses and, in some states, fill contact lens prescriptions that an optometrist or ophthalmologist has written.

Eligibility Criteria

Minimum 60% Marks in F.Sc. (Pre-Medical).

Admission Procedure

  • Admission is announced via advertisement in news paper with proposed deadline of application.
  • Application forms are available online and in admission office of the college
  • Candidates submit a complete application form along with required documents ( Martic Certificate, F.Sc. Certificate, Domicile certificate, CNIC or Form-B, Affidavit on stamp paper to exhibit good behavior and follow rules & Regulation, 5 passport size photographs)
    • Once deadline of application reaches, applications are short listed on merit basis
    • Short listed candidates are called for interview
    • Final selection list is pasted on notice board of the college and selected candidates are informed through letter by post.
